Don't let that shiny new toy distract you from Serious Business: the monthly survey is down below. It takes just 30 sec to complete β and every month some lucky soul gets the randomly-drawn $50 credit.

Congrats to Nicolas, our latest survey winner!
On his favorite place: "The vastness of the CΓ΄te d'Opale (in France) and its spirited waters evoke the grandeur of nature, reminding me of life's vibrancy. Childhood memories by the sea, cherished and captured by my family, still define my sense of wonder and humanity."

This type of post is a classic example of a huge shift in modern life β we've gone from it being difficult to get enough information (the problem that, for example, Lonely Planet aimed to solve), to drowning in information and looking for someone (anyone!!!) to curate the firehose for us.
Curation β in every sense β is a societal trend to keep your eye on. It unlocks and gatekeeps. It makes and breaks. And you need to decide - are you the curator, or the curated?
Side note: Nick's currently live-tweeting a multi-day blind date he's on in Tokyo (he lives in Texas, she lives in Utah). Blind date as in they both flew to Tokyo to meet, without ever meeting. Wild stuff.

We're suckers for a deep dive into tools. And The Rake has put together a truly beautiful piece on makers, their tools, and their creations. Ignore the cringe title, the tools are worth it.
But the ongoing tool fascination does raise some slightly uncomfortable self-examination β how much of this is just fetishisation? How much of this pull towards tools, and making things by hand, is just a reaction to sitting at a laptop all day?
As always, it's the reaction to the doubt that matters. If it's just browsing, so be it. But if it spurs you into action β to get away from the screen and create something β then it's a healthy intervention.
So what could you make this weekend?

Honestly? This straight up isn't a Deep Dive. It's a simple note of appreciation to a nice idea, executed well.
12hrs is a periodically-updated set of travel guides, but that description sells them short. They're curated portraits of places, pulling together conversations, phrases, discoveries, vignettes, and recommendations into a format that's pleasing on a surprisingly deep level (which, ironically, is unsurprising given the background of the curators)

If you have a spare 30 seconds to answer two interesting questions and maybe win $50 credit, the survey is here.

As always: let us know what you liked, what you'd like to see more of, your favourite creative tool, that sorta thing.
