Sure, every city in this month's edition is well-known, and each one undoubtedly has its own passionate fans.
But each one is also overshadowed in its own way: the average person says "Vienna" when you say "Austria"; Delhi is usually a launching point for more scenic destinations; and even as 3rd largest US city, Chicago struggles to hit Top 50 in terms of straight hype.
That's how they qualify as "underrated".
Time to balance the ledger.

Vienna gets all the buzz, but Innsbruck, nestled in Austria's mountainous Tyrol region, is very much the dashing younger sibling. It's equally spectacular in winter (skiing, ski jumping, biathlon, Glühwein) and summer (alpine hikes, fresh air, meadows so green you simply cannot avoid humming Edelweiss).
The cable car up to the Hafelekar is a good way to start – and probably just the pick-me-up you need after all that self-analysis at Vienna's Sigmund Freud Museum.
Our tip: take the train north to Munich, or drive south through the Brenner to Sterzing. Either way, you're rewarded with unforgettable views.

*from Jun-Sep!
Is it cheating to nominate a city for only a few months of the year?
Probably, but we make the rules around here, so full speed ahead.
As someone hailing from outside the US, the image I had of Chicago was gritty people in big coats scurrying through snowy streets in desperate search of hot dogs and whiskey. A scene that gives a very distinct feeling of being appropriately rated.
It was, indeed, a beach. And it was glorious.
Our tip: ... used to be "cocktails are cheaper than tourism, so hit the Signature Room for views instead of Willis Tower" - alas, Sig Room RIP. So: we've heard good things about the Riverwalk.

To many travellers, Delhi is synonymous with upset stomachs and, uhh, "persistent" Paharganj touts. But give it enough time for the antibiotics to kick in, and you'll uncover an ancient city rich in history, architecture, and food.
Perhaps more than any other Indian city, it's a melting pot of cultures, languages, and religions.
Instead of just touring known sights like Humayun's Tomb and Jama Masjid (as stunning as they are), the city is best experienced by ambling through Old Delhi and seeing where fate leads you.
Our tip: on the flight over, read City of Djinns by William Dalrymple.
