Lindsay’s productivity spotlight: Focus Matrix
Last year, I dove headfirst into testing out different productivity methods. And honestly? I think I’ve tried them all, or at least all the most popular ones.
This year, I’m shifting gears. Instead of focusing on methods, I’ll explore the tools, apps, and software that can help boost productivity. The best part? I’ll tie them back to the methods we tested last year to show how they can work together.

About Focus Matrix
Last April, I tackled the Eisenhower Matrix, so this month, I’m bringing it back with a little backup. Enter Focus Matrix, a straightforward, no-frills app that brings this classic productivity method to life on your iPad.
Instead of guessing what to do next, Focus Matrix implements the rules of the Eisenhower Matrix to help you sort tasks by urgency and importance so you can work smarter, not harder.
The concept: Break your to-dos into four clear quadrants to figure out what needs attention now, what can wait, what to delegate, and what to ditch.
The goal: Make better decisions faster by cutting through the chaos and zeroing in on what really moves the needle.

Living that quadrant life
I’ll admit it. When I first opened Focus Matrix, I expected a glorified to-do list. But what I got was a surprisingly intuitive system that brought the Eisenhower Matrix to life in a way that felt both practical and doable.
The app’s layout is clean and simple: four color-coded quadrants, ready to be filled.
I started simple: I dumped all my current to-dos into the app and began sorting. The layout made it easy to see my work in terms of priority, not just urgency, which was a big shift from how I usually plan.
Some decisions were easy. Writing deadlines and content planning? Straight into Quadrant I (urgent & important).
Others… not so much. (“Is pitching blog ideas for next quarter really urgent or just something I’m avoiding emails for?”)
The biggest win? Clarity. Once everything was sorted, I stopped wasting time deciding what to do next. I just opened the app and got to work. And when surprise tasks showed up (because, of course, they did), I could quickly drop them into the right spot without losing my flow. 🧠
One thing I really liked? The app encouraged me to not obsess over every single task. Instead, it helped me focus on what actually mattered, without spiraling into productivity panic. It was a great reminder that sometimes, doing less is how you actually get more done.
By the end of the week, my to-do list wasn’t gone, but it was under control. And for me, that’s a win.
If you’re constantly juggling work projects or creative deadlines and feel like everything is top priority, Focus Matrix can help you cut through the noise.

Our upcoming posts include:
- Eat the Frog: Why doing the hardest thing first actually works (and how to stop avoiding it).
- Don’t Break the Chain: The simplest habit method you’re probably not using, but should.
