Hi there,
Pierce from Rebel Rabbit here. It's day 16 of Dry January with a weekend around the corner. So allow me to get real for a second, quitting/slowing down with alcohol isn’t all smooth sailing.
I tried to make it through Dry January a few times before I finally succeeded.
Drinking during the week was never a big issue for me. I knew it affected my sleep, productivity, and anxiety, and the last thing I wanted was to carry a hangover into a workday.
My problem was weekends.
When you stop drinking, bars and parties can feel... off. Suddenly, you’re hyper-aware of everything:
- What am I supposed to do with my hands?
- Is this conversation even normal?
- Am I being too normal?
Here’s what I learned: avoiding those situations doesn’t solve the problem. You’ll never learn to own it unless you push through that uncomfortable phase.
The truth? That awkwardness is all in your head. Once you push past it, you’ll realize you’re way more fun (and present) without alcohol.
Once you cross that mental hurdle, Dry January—or any dry month—becomes so much easier.
And if you’re looking for an alternative buzz, we’ve got you covered!
