If Margaret River was the laid-back surfer, then the Yarra Valley would be the artsy intellect, poetic and overflowing with precision. From classic cellar doors to new-wave winemakers creating wild-ferments and skin-contact experiments. It's a playground for those who love texture and restraint, but still seeps class and elegance.
The Yarra Valley is one of Australia's oldest wine regions, vines were first planted back in 1838 but the area went bust in the early 1900s and then made a comeback in the 1960s. Thanks to its elevation and proximity to the Great Dividing Range, it's cool and misty with long ripening seasons. That's the reason you get such elegant and balanced wines.
A Pinot Noir from the ace 2023 vintage. It’s all perfectly formed red and dark cherry fruits with hints of spice, mushroom broth, pencil shavings, rosehip and earthy notes akin to forest floor characters. Lovely ripe tannin grip, bright acidity and a lovely flow across the tongue. Just superb for the price.
Pucker up, acidity coming in razor sharp. Shiraz and Petit Verdot digging deep into the ancient river gravel at their Nagambie Lakes vineyard. White pepper, freshly cut grass, juicy cherry and blood orange. Intriguing, we know! There's plenty of texture (hey fluffy tannins) and a boisterous texture to keep you pouring until there’s nada left. Slurper durper.
A blend of the 5 estate vineyards, this is a showcase of the best of Yarra Valley fruit. Handpicked, indigenous yeasts, gravity-flow winemaking, minimal fining and filtration. Highly expressive wine showing regional character. Some fruit sweetness, honeyed nougat, biscuit and spicy cashews. Freshness and energy shining through, with well-rounded elegance too.
