Short and sweet, the wrap-up is here to bring you up to speed on all the latest happenings at Sometimes Always. Here we go.
I love a bit of Pecorino—the cheese, obviously, but also the wine variety. There’s not that many examples coming from Australia (yet), but this is my most recent find that got me pretty damn excited. Texture, some on-point creaminess, zippy acid and downright drinkability. Just grate.
We do a feature on this region every so often as there is definite magic in the soil. And we were compelled to again this week when some new bottles arrived. They’ve been producing some of the world’s most captivating wines from local indigenous varieties for over 3000 years. Smokey, nervy, electric wines that are always on my go-to pile. Interest peaked? Start with this for a red and this as a white. Explosively good.
You know those iconic bottles sporting a whole family of faces? Yeah, well they returned to our shelves again for a new vintage. These are cult wines for a reason and as usual, in minuscule quantities. If highly expressive natural wines are your thing, now’s the time to adopt a couple into your cellar. I'm making eye contact with this one for the weekend.
It was guest selector time again this week and we were chuffed to have
David LeMire, CEO of Shaw and Smith, but also one of less than 500 Masters of Wine in the world, create a
curated selection for us. Big deal. This is a chance to get around some really expressive and sought-after wines.
