Hi,
Did you catch that wild moment during Paris Roubaix yesterday? Tadej nearly went down trying to grab a tiny bottle from his team car.
I've got the inside scoop: that little bottle was a "cramp shot" packed with electrolytes. Was he worried about cramps or is this providing a mental performance boost?
Traditionally you take these reactively when you are already cramping, but what Tadej was doing (and I've been experimenting with) is taking it proactively at a specific preplanned time or mile point into your workout.
My experience is that it isn't just about cramping. It feels to me there is a performance boost from these products, I don't know why yet, but it wakes me up (probably the pungent taste) and I seem to be able to push harder pretty much immediately after taking it (maybe the high amount of electrolytes?)
Right now I would say the leaders are Pickle Juice and HotShot and I expect to see way more entrants into this marketplace this year.
Just yesterday, I was grinding through a brutal 9-mile run (brutal for me anyway!) and strategically planned to a shot at exactly mile 6. The difference was IMMEDIATE. The last 3 miles felt dramatically easier than the first 3, and I'm convinced I wouldn't have made it through without it.
Again, try this even if you don't cramp, but as a wake-up booster for the last 25% of your workout.
P.S. Remember shipping is on me until the end of the month! It's our own economic stimulus plan.
