Hi,
“Don’t do it,” I thought, when I first heard about The Feed 25% off Birthday Sale. “There’s no way it’s worth losing that much money.”
I’m not a businessman though, so here we are. Let’s promote a sale that will probably bankrupt my sponsor.
Here are the products that I promise you are worth a try before The Feed goes out of business.
My favorite caffeine boost: Precision 100 Caffeine Gel
Take away my Precision CAF gels, and I’d be retired right now. We have 2 young kids. I’m tired all the time before training. Then I have a Precision CAF gel and suddenly I’m ready to arm wrestle a grizzly bear. I have more than 365 of these every year.
Honorable mention if Precision sells out: Amacx Drink Gel Cola
The first time I had this gel, I set a power PR on the bike that I’ll probably never beat. No big deal, but I could hang on Tadej Pogacar’s Z2 ride for a few minutes if there were no turns. Amacx is 75 mg of caffeine, with a liquid consistency that goes down easily. They are my choice for hot weather (along with Enervit).
The supplement changing everything: Maurten Sodium Bicarbonate
There is a before-bicarb era in pro endurance sports, and an after-bicarb era. It’s not just track races, it’s many of the fast marathons we’re seeing too, and increasingly more of the ultras. Take it once for a hard workout and you’ll see what I mean. It changes everything.
Honorable mention if guzzling bicarb isn’t your thing: Nomio
Nomio reduces lactate levels and has taken over the cycling peloton. Plus, it’s made from broccoli sprouts, so it feels healthy. Every time I drink one (usually 2 x per week), I feel like I’m sitting at an LA juice bar. 3 hours later, I feel like I could beat one of the Fast and the Furious cars in a drag race.
The daily performance support I can’t live without: First Endurance Multi-V
Multi-V does things to my red blood cells that DO NOT COMPUTE. Embarrassingly true story: after I started taking it, I emailed their customer support to check on their production practices, because I felt too good and it scared me.
Honorable mention if you want a champion gut: Fitbiomics V-Nella
V-Nella is one of my favorite science stories, where researchers isolated gut biota in a study at the Boston Marathon. They realized “OH CRAP THIS IS A BUSINESS” and spun-up Fitbiomics. V-Nella helps process lactate, and some emerging research shows it may improve motivation too. The gut is weird, and Fitbiomics is pushing the weird limits.
My fat-oxidation secret weapon: CurraNZ
CurraNZ has a shocking amount of great research, with most of it showing improved fat oxidation, including in advanced athletes. When I started taking it, I felt like I was given an extra fuel tank, and like parenting stress didn’t hit me as hard. I now have data from enough pro runners to confidently recommend it to almost any athlete pushing the limits, particularly in marathon-plus distances.
Honorable mention for reducing training inflammation: Enervit Magic Cherry
A review study just came out finding that tart cherry may reduce inflammatory markers after hard training. But even if that study was never published, we just have to look at what the cyclists do in stage races. When millions of dollars are on the line, post-exercise tart cherry is in the bottle. Magic Cherry after hard sessions works wonders, especially for aging athletes.
The gel for high-carb breakthroughs: Science in Sport Beta Fuel Gel
Look, I know Science in Sport raised their prices. I was sad because Beta Fuel gels are life changing, and I tried to move on. I really did. I DON’T NEED YOU, SiS!!! Oh...wait...I actually do. Beta Fuel gels just plain work, and they work as well at 15 hours as they do in the first hour. I took a few dozen of these during the Leadville 100, and I will again. Take me back, SiS. You know your value, and I respect that.
Honorable mention for the highest-carb gel made for big adventures: Styrkr Gel 50
Styrkr gels tip the scales at 50 grams of carbs per gel, at the 1:0.8 glucose:fructose ratio that I think is best at very high carb levels. Take one of these gels every 30 minutes, add sports drink, and you’re pushing the carb limits. Styrkr also made me search whether a “y” in the middle of a sentence is a vowel, so they care about education too.
Alright team, huddle up: if The Feed goes out of business this week, I will personally grab gels and go down each of your chimneys 50 times per year so you stay stocked up and reach new levels of performance. I have been training for this. Even with V-Nella, my gut can be hit-or-miss, so leave the bathroom open.
Get some Skratch Hydration Mix to pour out for Matt From The Feed. I think he may have saled too close to the sun.
