To our village —
April is our superbowl here at west~bourne. Today is my birthday, it’s our fourth birthday as a brand, and of course Earth Day is coming to honor the planet. And, Aries season is here, the ultimate beckoning of beginning as the fierce start of a new astrological year, while spring awakens in the soil.
This year, I've been sitting with a question I keep coming back to: what does it mean to be optimistic right now? Not naively, not performatively — but with clear eyes and dirty hands. Optimistic in the way a gardener is, and it’s led me to this simple truth: The gardener is always a futurist.
It’s not about today, rather gardeners plant for the season that follows, for the harvest they may not see, for the soil that will outlast them. That long view — patient, purposeful, deeply rooted — is the kind of thinking our planet needs right now, and it’s always been at the heart of west~bourne. We started this as a belief that the food we eat is one of the most powerful change agents we have at our fingertips - for the planet and our health. That the long-term solution to the climate crisis lives with the land, not in a lab. And that every one of us has a role to play — through small, daily, compounding choices.
That's what this month is about for us. And to mark the occasion, I want to share four seeds worth planting this April:
