Welcome to Round Up!
- February 5, 2024 -
Hello, and welcome to the Round Up newsletter! Each month, we’ll ship the best-in-YNAB content and tips: Budget Nerds, podcasts from Jesse, Heard It from Hannah, Ben M.’s Sketchy Advice, and more. So many people tend to see money as a necessary evil, a burden—or at best, a routine to keep under control. But we know that money is right up there with health and relationships. Round Up is here to help you feel excited and confident about this question: How do you want to spend your money?

Quiz question: How does billionaire Warren Buffett adjust his spending at McDonald’s each morning depending on whether the markets are up or down?
- If markets are down, skips the second coffee
- If markets are up, spends $3.17 on a Bacon and Egg McMuffin

We Have a Few Category Suggestions for You
|
|
Every time you categorize a transaction, YNAB automatically selects the category last used with that payee. But for payees that have several possible categories, like Big Box stores, wouldn’t it be nice to see a list of the categories associated with that payee? Voilà! The mobile app now suggests a list of five categories that you’ve recently used with that payee.

Quiz answer: Bear or bull breakfast? Warren Buffett makes his breakfast buying decision at the McDonald’s drive-thru based on whether the financial markets are up or down. Each morning, his wife fills the cup holder in his Cadillac with money for either plain sausage patties ($2.61), Sausage and Egg McMuffin ($2.95), or—when he’s really feeling flush–a Bacon and Egg McMuffin ($3.17).
We think he could probably save a lot of time if, instead of writing his famous letters to investors, he just snapped a pic of his breakfast and called it a day.
