"In the United States, all newborns get a heel prick test, but states set their own policies on how long the blood samples are stored." A federal class action lawsuit against the New Jersey Department of Health and its Division of Family Health Services argues that "parents aren’t told how long the samples are kept, or that their child’s blood could be used in other ways [such as criminal investigations and medical research]."
