Soldiers in the US military have been issued bags since before the civil war. Early on, there were knapsacks. Rugged, single-cavity bags made for long movements. The need for more pockets and organization for quick access to smaller essentials like food, water, and weaponry brought us the M1945 during WWII. It was named after the year it was manufactured and issued. These are the bags that inspired us to develop the M23 rucksack, also named after the year it is manufactured and “issued”.
