It took 30-year-old Timothée Chalamet’s entire lifetime (plus a couple decades), but the New York Knicks are NBA champions once again. (“Way rather this than the Oscars. Come on, baby!” the four-time Oscar nominee said, mostly convincingly, after the Game 5 clinch in San Antonio.) Throughout it all, for every beat of this thrillingly unchartered postseason, the surest bet you could place in advance of any game was that the native-Manhattanite actor would be sitting courtside, hyping up his beloved team, and wearing a charmingly slovenly ensemble.
“I don’t cherish anything more in my new life than my Garden access,” Chalamet said on a recent episode of Carmelo Anthony’s 7PM in Brooklyn podcast. The actor, whose childhood apartment in Hell’s Kitchen was approximately a 15-minute walk from Madison Square Garden, grew up scrounging for cheap tickets to games. Now, he’s a bonafide Celebrity Row staple. Over the past two years, he’s gone out of his way to attend the team’s playoff games, carving out time in his hectic Hollywood schedule to jet between various metropolises and small-market arenas. This love is serious: He once skipped the Met Gala to watch a game on an iPad, and he’s even got his “born-and-raised LA baddie” girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, jetting all over the country to cheer on his home team.
And for as long as Timmy’s been famous enough to sit (and be photographed) amongst the VIPs in Celeb Row, he’s steadily built up his blue-and-orange wardrobe. The actor’s been bing-bonging since long before he was rubbing elbows with fellow Knicks fanatics like Ben Stiller and Spike Lee, but he only recently started dressing like a high-profile superfan: custom Chrome Hearts getups, deep-cut vintage team tees, and a seemingly endless stream of cooked Timberlands.
Luckily for us, the internet has photo documentation of every Knicks game Chalamet has attended in the last nine-ish years. Let’s travel back in time, shall we?
