Hear me out: Florence, Italy, on a rainy day. I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t the whole point of visiting Tuscany to bask in the glorious sunshine while sipping wine – or, when in Florence, negroni – all day? That’s one reason the region made our Best in Travel 2024 list, but when I recently found myself crossing over the Arno River (umbrella-less, I might add), the misty magic that surrounded the Ponte Vecchio was a sight I’ll never forget.
But since Tuscany is habitually sunny (the iconic 2003 rom-com is called Under the Tuscan Sun for good reason), let’s talk about what to do in the region when you’re not strolling the cobbled streets of Florence. Maybe you'll hop between wineries in Chianti, see Pisa’s famous leaning tower, or treat yourself to a dreamy Mediterranean escape on the island of Elba.
Most visitors, however, will understandably head straight to Florence. There’s a long list of experiences to have here, like seeing Michaelangelo’s David up close (truly, there’s nothing like it), shopping for upcycled leather pieces, and the food! Oh, the food. Steak, pasta, wine, cheese – all of my favorite things!
So please, do yourself a favor and visit Tuscany this year, rain or shine.
