I can admit it. I’m extra. Never happy with just one thing, I need sprinkles on my cupcake and adventures within adventures. That’s why I love a day trip. On a weeklong trip to London a friend and I spent a Saturday in Brighton. We rummaged through vintage shops and ate fish and chips on the beach with our feet buried in the pebbles.
A sojourn to Château de Chantilly from Paris only adds to the fairy tale that is the city of love, and spending the day at Teotihuacán while in Mexico City brings a deeper understanding of the ancient civilization that called this place home.
TBH I use Lonely Planet's day trips articles to plan trips all the time. Often I can link the suggestions and make a perfect road trip. Or, as I’m doing with an upcoming trip to California, I base myself in one amazing city and just add on the sparkle. I’m choosing Los Angeles, and creating a 10-day trip going north for coastal wine tasting and glamping in Santa Barbara, before heading south to get my beach on. You can even pop out to the desert for a refreshing hike after a day or two in Sin City. Read on to find out how.
