Hi friends,
Every now and then, we get a comment on our ads asking about that orange gooey blob we’re squeezing into the Popper.
No, it’s not chemical sludge.
It’s just butter-flavored coconut oil. And the reason it’s not liquid is because coconut oil solidifies in cooler temperatures. It will melt when heated, just like butter. 😉 As for the color, it’s nothing artificial. We use vitamin B-12 to give the oil that bright orange hue.
Now if you’re wondering why we use coconut oil for our popcorn kits in the first place, there are several reasons.
The first is that it has a richness and texture similar to butter, which is why many movie theaters use it in their popcorn.
Another reason is its smoke point. Popcorn pops at a high temperature, so you need something that won’t burn the kernels. Since coconut oil has a smoke point of 400°F, it fits the bill.
Also, using this oil instead of actual butter makes our popcorn vegan and gluten-free. That means more of you can enjoy our Oh Sooo Buttery Popcorn. Order a box here (or better yet, get a subscription and save 15% off your order)!
I hope you learned something new today. You can check out this blog post if you’re curious to know even more about coconut oil, or you can reply to this email with other burning questions you might have about Popsmith. 🙂
