This year marks the 45th Directors Lab — a milestone in nurturing bold, independent storytellers.
As alum Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl) shared:
“I've moved through the world with confidence because of the lab — knowing there's a place that accepts, loves, and champions these types of movies has made it so I know I have a place in the world.”
In 2012, Marielle Heller arrived at the Directors Lab with a deeply personal script and a dream. Through hands-on mentorship and a supportive creative community, she found the courage to trust her voice — a journey that propelled her to direct acclaimed films and become a Sundance Labs creative advisor and Festival juror herself.
