Hi,
The Feed would like to introduce Hunter McIntyre, the current HYROX world record holder and HPT athlete.
Hunter, 35, is also a 3x HYROX World Champion, holding numerous titles and records as a hybrid athlete. But he’s more than a list of impressive stats. Hunter’s road to success isn’t typical, nor is his dedication to performance nutrition.
Read on to be entertained and informed as we get to know Hunter McIntyre.
Bro Beginnings
Hunter survived an inauspicious start on the East Coast to become an athlete. Riddled with ADHD and boundless energy, at 14, he started using drugs with predictable results. He became a usual suspect for local police wherever criminal mischief ensued.
After a detour to rehab and a stint as a supermodel (yes, it’s true), Hunter’s improbable path to the podium started in 2011 with a relocation to the hills of Malibu, Calif. He moved to a friend’s self-described “bro mansion,” planning to become a celebrity personal trainer.
He fit the mold well, slinging weights by day, chasing girls and partying by night. He earned eight certifications but wanted more.
Hunter was a record-setting high school wrestler and cross-country running champion and dreamed of becoming a Navy SEAL. He felt he had the toughness to survive Hell Week and was sworn in. But shortly thereafter, “questionable details” about his past led to his expulsion. He tried to pivot to the Army, Marines and Coast Guard, but to no avail.
As fate would have it, one of his “bros” informed him about Spartan races. And the fuse was lit.
Despite partying the night before and lacking any specific preparation, Hunter, who was 22, finished 9th overall, eight minutes behind the winner.
Hunter’s first Spartan race empowered him to direct his endless energy and wide-open approach into a sport that finally captured his attention.
Fast Forward to the Top
