Hi,
This week I've got my science hat on. I've been mentioning it all summer but the science around performance and recovery is moving really fast. I'm working to be on the forefront to bring you the best products (that have proven efficacy) before anyone else.
This is what I have for you: broccoli sprouts from Sweden that make your legs hurt less, Ronaldo's supplement routine your sprinkle on your morning yogurt, Red Spinach is taking over from Beets, and Olive Oil to take daily. All new science-first products to boost performance and recovery.
First up is Nomio from Sweden.
The first thing I'll say is the pro athlete endorsements on Nomio are truly impressive. The one that really hit me to go deeper was David Roche showing performance breakthroughs in his running while training with Nomio. If he says it is working for him, I'm listening.
Nomio is broccoli, well actually broccoli sprouts - like 2.5kg of sprouts to make one drink shot. It's a lot of broccoli.
You drink it 2 to 3 hours before your workout and it reduces lactic by up to 12%. Some of the best athletes in the world swear by it and say their legs feel lighter and they recover better.
While similar messaging applies to nitrates (beets, SwissRX Nitric Oxide) that increase the flow of blood, Nomio works completely differently and you can use both together.
For years exercise physiologists knew that Isothiocyanates can reduce lactate and speed up recovery. That is the key ingredient the broccoli brings, but getting a concentrated enough dosage that is shelf stable format has been impossible until Nomio figured it out.
How it works is even more fascinating. What it is doing is generating more Glutathione. But right after you take it, your body consumes Glutathione for about 90 minutes, this kick starts the over production of Glutathione that peaks at 3 hours - the ideal window to now train and push your limits.
You then have elevated Isothiocyanates for a full 9 hours after consumption, this is where it helps further with recovery after your hard effort.
So to make it work be sure you take it at least 2 hours before your workout. The taste, well I don't love broccoli in general, but the taste is totally manageable there is a slight broccoli/greens taste that you get right away, but it fades away after just a few seconds.
Performance Sprinkles (that I love).
I've been skeptical of celebrity-endorsed products for years. But when I dug into Bioniq, I realized this isn't some random endorsement deal. These Swiss-patented granules are what Cristiano Ronaldo has been using for the last years and for good reason.
They have really strong formulations for Performance, Recovery, and Mind (focus), but what is most interesting is how you take it. You can take a traditional capsule if that is your preference, but what I like is the version that is just the granules. You scoop it onto some yogurt (or into a shake).
It's not just the format that is unique, the granules are a Swiss technology that increases how much of the supplement your body actually absorbs.
While the formulas stand alone on why you should be using this, the fact it eliminates a bunch of pills in the morning is a huge plus if you don't like taking pills.
I've been using a scoop of all three (Performance, Recovery, and Mind) on my morning yogurt and not only does it look great, it's super easy to stay consistent.
Other new products to check out:
Concentrated Electrolytes called E-Lyte from Body Bio. You mix it with water or other beverages to increase their electrolyte concentration (don't drink it straight, I made that mistake and won't do it again). All around amazing athlete Eric Hinman turned me on to it, and so far I love it.
Red Spinach might be the new beets for increasing Nitric Oxide production. Studies show it has 50x more nitrates per gram than beets. The product is called RS400 Red Spinach and if you are looking for a performance boost you should check this out.
Olive Oil is an excellent source of polyphenols that have benefits for recovery and reducing inflammation. The problem is most Olive Oil products lose their polyphenol benefits quickly. O-Liv has created a way to encapsulate the polyphenols so they are stable for up to two years. 1 capsule has the equivalent polyphenols of 1.5 TBSP of Olive Oil.
Today's Deal is to use code ###### and save 33% on these top three selling supplements (I use each of these daily):
