While renovating the Sainsbury Wing of London’s National Gallery, workers discovered what may be the pettiest time capsule of all time. As it turns out, back in 1990 when the wing was being built, one of its donors, John Sainsbury, disagreed with the architect’s decision to place two large false columns that held no structural or safety purposes. Sainsbury was so irked by this design choice that he buried a note in one of the columns explaining as much to future generations—an approving gift to whoever was in charge of ultimately tearing them down. Sadly, Sainsbury passed away in 2022, narrowly missing the confirmation of his beliefs. -DW

While I’ve mentioned Baserange in passing before (when I wrote up this natural wood-decorated power cord spotted in their Paris showroom), it’s kind of crazy that I haven’t given them the full High Praise treatment. There are a lot of reasons to love this modern minimalist brand, like their creative styling, commitment to sustainability, use of natural and recycled materials (including hemp), and the endless wearability of their pieces. I bought a burnt orange Ecovero viscose skirt from them at the beginning of the summer and it’s quickly become a staple of my wardrobe. (It’s sold out on their site, but you can still snag an XS here.) Earlier this month, they launched a men’s collection, featuring boxers, tanks, and tees made from a mix of regenerative and recycled cotton, which hopefully makes this recommendation even more useful. -VvP

Over the lifespan of Gossamer, we’ve seen kitschy smoking accessories trend up and trend down. And while I know a lot of people like their pipes and bongs to be as minimal and simple as possible, I’m a certified sucker for a piece with a sense of humor. Edie Parker, arguably the queen of high-low weed merchandise, and Burning Love, which I’ve mentioned here several times, both have pasta-inspired designs that tickle my fancy, so to speak. This Ravioli Pipe (sold out here but can be found elsewhere with a quick google) is a fun food accompaniment—just add your own herbs—and this Pasta Bong is a noodle-forward novelty for a more prominent place in your home. Can’t go wrong with either! -DW

Fernando Aciar, better known as “Fefo,” is one of the most talented individuals I’ve met. Born and raised in the Andes of Argentina, Fefo has seemingly lived more lives than a mortal is given. A lauded ceramicist and renowned chef, Fefo has cooked and created his way across the world, most recently opening Ostudio here in Brooklyn. And while there’s a 30% off end of summer sale on his studio’s site right now (use code CERAMICS2023), I highly recommend catching his latest pieces at the Collectible design fair in New York next week. -DW
