How would you suggest people experiment with moon rocks? Do you think it’s really only for people with higher tolerances?
I would say to never be afraid of anything, especially our moon rocks. Your preferred method of smoking would be the best way to consume, because that way you have an existing understanding and a sense of control. You can build on it. If you’re someone who likes to take a little bong hit, maybe start with a baby bong hit of a moon rock. And then an hour or so later you can decide if you would like to try more. My other recommendation is, if possible, to have a friend with you. That way, wherever you go, you have company.
How would you describe the high?
It’s a strong high. A low-dose edible, for example, can be more of a subtle shift. I think it’s important to have some reverence for the experience of smoking moon rocks, or at least knowing that for most consumers, it isn’t casual. This isn’t walking to work and taking a little hit of your vape, and then maybe forgetting about it. A moon rock is unforgettable.
At Gossamer, we often think and talk about weed as an additive, something you layer in to heighten some other experience. It sounds like you’re saying that the act of smoking a moon rock is the experience itself—almost more like taking mushrooms or other psychedelics.
I think the disclaimer is that everyone has different tolerance. Some people have a really high tolerance, and they may take a hit of moon rock and say, “Where’s the next one?” But I think it’s important to acknowledge there’s a group of people who are really affected by weed, even low-dose weed. And I think that moon rocks can be part of their ritual, but they should be approached with the awareness that the high from a moon rock is the main event. Though it would be great at a concert.
One other thing that I really love about moon rocks is that because they’re not causal, and because there’s a little manual work required, smoking one really is more of a ritual. The need to set up, to prepare, really adds to the experience. It’s super tactile. That adds to the pleasure, I think. You have to take the time for it, and give yourself the space. It’s also a fully manual product. Making moon rocks doesn’t involve any solvents or additions. It’s a real salute to the diversity and complexity of the plant. I think it's a beautiful celebration of what the plant has to offer.
