Do I really need to write anything other than “Get toasted with this”? And if you bought that butter pipe I mentioned back in March, you’ve really got a great breakfast set going. (I should note that Burning Love also has a butter pipe and a butter lighter wrap.) -DW

Last week, David rightly pointed out the sad truth that poetry books often only get one printing, and typically a small one, at that. He reminded me to share one of my recent favorites, Thank You, Terror by Mathias Svalina. Some of you might know Svalina from his Dream Delivery Service, which is exactly what it sounds like: a month’s worth of dreams written just for you and delivered to your door. (If you’re interested, next month’s Dream Delivery Service is dedicated to your animal loved ones: 66 dreams written for your pets.) Thank You, Terror is a collection of poems all titled “Thank You Terror” and written over the course of a decade, from 2013 through 2023. It’s both spare and unsparing, evocative and heartbreaking, and deeply relatable. The cover art is a Rorschach-like blob of hundreds of hand-written “Thank You Terrors,” all by friends whom Svalina later thanks in the closing poem of the book. It’s beautiful. If you do pick up a copy, my favorite “Thank You Terror” is on page 22. I’d love to know yours.) -VvP

Just a quick reminder that there’s no better way to spend a summer night in the city than at a BrooklynCyclones game. My recommendation is for a Friday night matchup at Maimonides Park. If you can round up a crew of friends, there are great deals on group tickets, too. I went last night on our annual excursion and our $22 tickets came with two large beers, a hat, and a post-game fireworks show. If you want to level up your evening, bring a bar of mushroom chocolates and make your way down the boardwalk to Luna Park for more beers, funnel cake, and a few extra hours of beachside fun. I promise you won’t regret it. -VvP

Every time I write about a meat-related product or a recipe that includes some kind of animal protein, at least one person writes in to gently (or sometimes forcefully) try to convince me of the wonders of vegetarianism. So, I suppose this recommendation is for you, but really it’s for anyone who loves delicious and healthy-ish fast food. Founded during the pandemic, Moonburger first opened in Kingston, NY, and has since spread down the Hudson, with locations in Poughkeepsie and now Brooklyn. I had the pleasure of attending the recent opening, where I posted up by the french fries area and asked them to keep them coming. (It was not my finest hour.) If you have more self-control than I—or even if you don’t—you should make a point to pop by next time you’re in Williamsburg. And for everyone outside of New York state, I have a hunch that there will be a nationwide expansion coming in time. -DW
