I’ll reveal my word for 2024 next week, but the reason I like this process so much is it requires more thought and has longer lasting impact than a resolution that’s broken in two weeks.
Change takes time, so the value of the word is usually centred for me around either a weakness or an area I wish to improve. Past words—forgiveness, patience, mindset, health, finance, confidence.
It’s easy looking at those words to see how a focus for a whole year on what those words mean to me, could have a real impact.
So how to pick your word for the year?
Firstly, take your time. Intentions for your year ahead matter, rushing it does not. Ask yourself this:
1️⃣ What’s something I know is holding me back?
2️⃣ What’s an area I am (privately) ashamed to know so little about that would improve my life to get better at?
3️⃣ You’re on your death bed reflecting back on your life. What mattered most in this reflection? What’s the one thing that will bring you closer to this vision of a life well lived?

Take control, set intentions, and observe how much closer you get to better outcomes. An intentional life is the only real way to reach your heights.
