Meet the Artists Behind Mr. Nobody Against Putin |
In Mr. Nobody Against Putin, primary school students are recruited for war after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Director David Borenstein introduces us to his co-director Pavel Talankin, the teacher who went undercover to reveal what was happening in his school. Pavel expresses his admiration for Talankin, and the teacher discusses how he was afraid to speak out in the film at times but was determined to share this important story with the world. East of Wall, Ricky premiered and Cynthia Erivo Honored at Our Gala — Day 2 Was a Vibe! |
The first Friday of the Fest brought premieres for East of Wall, André Is An Idiot, and more.
Once evening hit on day two, it was time for Celebrating Sundance Institute presented by Google TV where we honored actor Cynthia Erivo, Sundance Labs and Festival alum James Mangold, Sundance Institute’s Founding Senior Director of Artist Programs Michelle Satter, Dìdi (弟弟) writer-director Sean Wang, and Sugarcane co-directors Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie. Inside, Sara Bareilles surprised the crowd with a performance while guest Glenn Close spoke about the power and grace of Satter. Backstage, recent Oscar nominees Mangold, Erivo, and the Sugarcane team exchanged hugs and admiration for each other’s work.
