"Google acted illegally to maintain a monopoly in online search, a federal judge ruled on Monday, a landmark decision that strikes at the power of tech giants in the modern internet era and that may fundamentally alter the way they do business," reports David McCabe.
"'This is the most important antitrust case of the century, and it’s the first of a big slate of cases to come down against Big Tech,' said Rebecca Haw Allensworth, a professor at Vanderbilt University’s law school who studies antitrust. 'It’s a huge turning point.'"

TikTok not only allowed kids under 13 to make accounts without parental permission, but also collected "extensive data" on them. The Department of Justice in the U.S. is now suing the social media platform for violating U.S. child privacy law.

Malena Carollo says "bars across the [U.S.] are using technology to verify that IDs match whoever is presenting them," which has raised privacy concerns around how the data is collected and used. Offerings like "Patronscan" from Canadian company Servall Data Systems use an ID-database and facial recognition to flag people as potential security risks. The technology also allows businesses to keep track of "VIPs" and "big spenders," and even provide "value scores" to the bars' mix of customers.
